I met a woman recently and she said, “Rev. I am so frightened!” I responded, what are you frightened about? She said, “Just about everything, the world has gone mad!” She exclaimed. The therapist in me said, tell me more about your feelings. I wanted to give her the opportunity to vent for a while. Then another voice in me said, she is not your client; you won’t have another session with her. She is in trouble; she needs hope, something more lasting to hang on to.
The Patriarch Job said, “Man who is born of woman is few of days and is full of trouble. He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not” (Job 14:1-2 ESV). Job is the classic character on suffering on evil in the world. He uttered this statement in the midnight of his suffering and anxiety. If you are going through your midnight experience, draw strength from his story; it addresses the human condition in the face of good and evil.
But who is Job? He was a righteous, rich man with a lovely family; he was an outstanding leader in his community, doing exceedingly well. Then one day evil befall him. His stock market crashed, and he lost all his wealth. And another major disaster happened, he lost all seven children. And finally, he lost his health. His wife counseled him to curse God and die. At this point she dropped out of the story; she probably threw in the proverbial towel and left for greener pasture.
Whether you believe in personified evil are not; an evil befall Job, and chapter 1 of his story, Identified personified evil and personified good (God and Satan) behind Job’s calamity. The book has much to teach us about the mystery of good and evil, and the influence both have upon our short earthly lives. Life is full of trouble and some people have double troubles.
But life is not only trouble; it has many joys as well; the joy of family and friends, and the joy of serving others. Job had three friends that visited him in his suffering, but they misunderstood his suffering. Because of the severity of his suffering, they concluded that Job might not have been all that righteous after all. They accused him wrongly of secretly having his hands in iniquity and that is the cause of his suffering. They were dead wrong!
A lot of people suffer not because they are wicked; there is something else at play here. Job is a lengthy book in the Old Testament. Read it sometimes and see how the Job story ends.
When you look at what’s going on here in the United States, Russia and Ukraine, Hamas, and Israel, you know for sure there is evil in our world, but there is also tremendous good. Both have influence on our lives, but we must decide which side we are going to stand on.
You may think of me as arrogant if I told you I know how history is all going to end, because it is revealed to us. But not everybody has the knowledge skills and spiritual insight to put it all together. Well, I have written ten (10) prophetic volumes that takes you from now to the end of history. And we are closer to the end than you may want to believe. Be sure to add them to your reading list. I guarantee a brighter future is ahead for those who take heed to the spiritual guidance and wisdom in these ten volumes.
