A working vacation in heaven with a question mark is the title of a book, newly released. It is not the usual book about heaven; it has surprisingly blunt and helpful information worth knowing. It also provides wise guidance about your tomorrow.
The message of this book is this—if you plan on going to heaven, treat it as you would if planning for a vacation to Europe or some other part of the world: learn all that you can about the place, start planning early, think about the cost, and plan smartly.
What Do you Know about the Place?
What I have found out is that everybody wants to go to heaven, except Michael Reagan who said in a popular tv commercial that he is not afraid of burning in hell. Poor Michal is ignorant about both hell and heaven. The rest of us may not know that much either, but at least we do not want to go to hell. But beyond not wanting to go hell, most of us do nothing to avoid going there. We invest more in planning for a vacation that last for a week or two but none planning for our eternal destination.
I was surprised to know that even regular church folks know extraordinarily little about heaven. They sing, preach, and romanticize about heaven, but most do no serious planning plan for it. They put it on the backburner of important things to do until they are on their dying bed. That is nothing short of playing Russian roulette with one’s life.
I say, “playing Russian roulette” because life is uncertain; people die suddenly without having time for anything else. Some fall into a coma, losing their mental capacity to choose or make decisions. The book, “A Working Vacation in Heaven?” does not only tell you what you need to know planning your eternity, it introduces you to a wealth of knowledge concerning the countdown to the end of the age.
Start Planning Early
King Solomon, the wise king of ancient Israel said, “Remember your creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come, and the years approach when you will say, I find no pleasure in them” (Ecclesiastics 12:1). As life moves away from youth, we tend to become preoccupied with making a name for ourselves and things spiritual become clouded out or crowded out.
Your youth might be decades behind you. Have you gotten the education you wanted, the career, the good paying job, the spouse, the dream house, and the dog? Perhaps, you are retired, so what next? Have you seriously chosen your eternal destination yet, if not, why not? People who put it off are at risk having the choice made for them, and that is never a good thing to have it chosen for you.
It is not a hard choice to make; there are only two places to choose from, one exceedingly hot, the other pleasant all year round. You are tempted to just read this and put it off again. But do not do that, make the choice today. Do not put it off! Make your choice and start planning.
A Working Vacation in Heaven will clear up some of the myths about heaven and help you to plan wisely. If you do not like to read, listen to the audio book.
