The Uncomfortable Truth

One of the strange realities about us humans is that some truths make us uncomfortable, even if the truth is for our good. Whether it is someone telling us we have bad breath or the doctor giving us the result of a test that requires follow up medical treatment to save our lives. We do not like to hear things that make us uncomfortable; this is particularly true of us men when it comes to our health. We delay, we procrastinate until matters become gravely life-threatening.

I find the same attitude present in both men and women when it comes to our spiritual condition; we don’t want to talk about things spiritual because it makes us uncomfortable. We rather not face our spiritual condition until it is too late, or we are on our dying bed.

But the neglect of our spiritual life is more consequential than the neglect of our physical life. Physically, we all must die sooner or later; but spiritual life here qualifies us for an eternal destination. This is a destination we step into the moment we step out of the physical body. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Cor.5:6-8). “Present with the Lord” does not mean everyone is in a happy place, but you are in a domain only God controls (John 5:28). Only true believers are in a happy place after death.

 Whatever destination you find yourself, the moment you step out of the body, that place is eternal. You cannot change it and you cannot escape from it; you are there permanently, and by choice. Let no church group fool you that they have the power to get you out of that uncomfortable place after death; they are lying to you, but they don’t know they are lying because they inherited the same lie as truth.

We often question medical authorities when they give us uncomfortable reports, but at least, they have provision for a second opinion. But religious authorities don’t want you to have a second opinion, not even your own. Have you ever examined what you are told by spiritual authorities or sought to test their conclusion?

What if your church, your synagogue, your priest, your pastor, your rabbi has been feeding you lies all these years? If you wait until you step out of the body to find out that you believed a lie all your life, you are still eternally lost. It’s too late to change it! You say, my spiritual leader won’t lie to me! Like Saul of Tarsus (in Acts 9), they don’t know they are lying; they are sincere but sincerely wrong. I am not saying that all of them are wrong.

Spiritual leaders don’t sit down each week and decide to lie to their followers; that is not the way it works. They subscribe to a false tradition that the Word of God does not support, or a false interpretation of scripture that is woven into their training as truth and they accept that lie as truth and can speak for it passionately. The lie they subscribe to was made up a way back  in the past by  church authorities and passed down as truth. The lie is baked into the tradition that you accepted as truth without question. So your spiritual leader accepted it as truth and passed it on to you as truth. But that does not make it true!  

 But you never bother to question, examine, get a second opinion, or better yet, test what you are told against the Word of God. No, you won’t do that because it makes you feel uncomfortable. Why do you believe what you believe? Examine what you believe against the Word of God, because if it does not hold up, then you are in serious trouble.

 What do you know about the coming of the Lord, the end of the age? How well are you positioned to face what is coming? These are uncomfortable questions that most people would rather not think about until it is too late.
